AHA have announced that a national stock standstill exercise will be conducted mid next year. This will include at least one Victorian saleyard and will include ‘live’ components as well as a desk top exercise. More details when they come to hand. (more…)

1. Executive Committee
“That LSAV initiate a complete review of its articles to incorporate the new Associations act requirements as well as any other changes as proposed by members. This review to be undertaken by a small working group drawn from the executive. The resultant new constitution by approved by members at a special AGM as soon as possible.”
2. Swan Hill Saleyards
“That the LSAV replace its current regional committee structure with a new executive election model.”
2013-14 BUDGET
Saleyard Users Agreement
We are planning to present the Wycheproof users agreement at the saleyard managers forum at the conference in August. It will be a priority topic for 2013-14 with all yards encouraged to create their own version. (more…)

Ramp Standards Visit
Today we received the ALTRA newsletter attached. This refers to visits to saleyards to view ramps etc by transporter reps. Can you advise me if this happens at your site.

NSQA GAINS LMA ACCREDITATION
The attached media release from NSQA outlines their successful application to be accredited by the new Victorian Livestock Management Act. All yards with NSQA accreditation will undergo a reduced audit process once the new LMA act becomes live in Victoria.
Saleyards as drop off sites
One of our member yards is considering decommisioning its sheep yard area. This has not been used for several years for any sales. However, it is used by agents to build sale lots for delivery to another centre. They would prefer to close these facilities and only operate as a cattle yard.
Their issue is that do yards have to provide a transit facility for both cattle and sheep? I believe that this is not neccesary as many single animal yards only provide this capability for their designated sale type.
