Saleyard Welfare Standards – 90 day public consulation
Dear livestock industry stakeholder,
A 90 day public consultation for the proposed Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Livestock at Saleyards and Depots (Saleyard Welfare Standards) as well as the associated Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) commences on 11 September 2014.
On behalf of all Australian state and territory governments, the Project Manager seeks views from interested parties about how the:
- proposed standards will ensure the welfare of livestock at saleyards; and
- associated RIS demonstrates the need for the Saleyard Welfare Standards.

Sale Saleyard Renovation Tenders
Tenders are currently advertised for 3 of what will be a total of 5 works packages relating to the refurb of our saleyards. Would be great if you could somehow distribute through any LSAV networks. Details can be found on council’s website http://www.wellington.vic.gov.au/Your-Council/Doing-Business-With-Council/Current-Tenders
The tenders are:
- Removal of existing pens – closing date 2pm Wednesday 24 September 2014.
- Buyers walkways crown unit supply – closing date 2pm Wednesday 24 September 2014.
- Selling shed construction – closing date 2pm Wednesday 1 October 2014.

Internal Audit Template
John Koschel has provided an internal audit template as discussed at the recent LSAV Conference. This is also loaded in the industry documents area of the website.
NSQA WEBSITE
NSQA have announced the launching of a web site covering their business activities. This site is located at www.nsqa.com.au.
This site provides details on the NSQA system as well as a members login area. Any saleyards that are NSQA members are encouraged to obtain this login and access this area for extra information.

THE VICTORIAN LIVESTOCK INDUSTRY TO BEGIN PROOF OF CONCEPT TRIALS
The Livestock Saleyard Association of Victoria (LSAV) is pleased to announce that the Electronic NVD project is about to commence field trials from late June this year. These trials will cover most of the livestock marketing avenues for sheep, cattle (dairy and beef) and bobby calves.
This includes via the saleyard and feedlot systems as well as direct to processor sales. The trial phase will include marketing chains for bobby calves, chopper cows, sheep and beef cattle. The (more…)
